Chery Tiggo 4 Pro
The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro might be the entry-level SUV in the Chinese carmaker’s arsenal but it packs a mighty punch.
It underwent a refresh in 2022 and we headed to MyRide Chery Hermanus to try out the Comfort and flagship SE ADAS derivatives.
Voice Command is Standard Across the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Range
Before we tell you about what’s different between the Comfort and SE ADAS models, let’s start with their similarities. The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is available with six airbags, leather seats and voice command as standard.
By simply uttering “Hello Chery” we had access to the smartphone, music and activating the air conditioning. Pretty neat.
Both models have large centrally-mounted touch screens that house the infotainment system. The graphics are clear and easy to read with quick operation available to enter different menus.
We were impressed with the fit and finish of the interior and noticed some of the switchgear is lifted from the pricier Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 models. That’s a great example of how good the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is as a value proposition.
The Comfort model has a slew of safety items including ABS, EBD and EBA.
The list of convenience features is as long as Spur’s menu, but these are worth mentioning: Hill Assist and Downhill Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and rear parking sensors. The latter is a prerequisite on any compact SUV in our opinion as the SUV’s tall stance makes it difficult to see what’s lurking behind.
Now onto what sets these models apart. The SE ADAS has a sunroof and 17” wheels to set itself apart visually from the Comfort model.

Inside we noticed red stitching on the leather bits on the dash and seats and a digital instrument cluster replaced the Comfort’s analogue version. Cruising around the Overberg town of Hermanus we enjoyed the comfort and convenience inside the cabin, but we were keen to put it through its paces.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?
First up was the Comfort model which employs a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 83kW and 138Nm. It offers adequate performance in a car that’ll mostly be used in urban areas.
All models are fitted with a CVT and we were pleasantly surprised at how it changed ‘gears’. There was little lag to speak of and it replicates the characteristics of a conventional auto ‘box pretty well.

Onto the SE ADAS flagship, and the turbocharged version of the same engine is a powerful little customer thanks to 108kW and 210Nm. As with most modern forced induction engines, there is a slight delay at the bottom of the rev range, but we noticed that prodding the Sport button livened up the throttle response.
Mercifully the 17” wheels don’t compromise the ride comfort. Back pain is so 2019, right?
A MILLION-KILOMETRE ENGINE WARRANTY?
Yep, you read that correctly. Chery is so confident in its product that the engine warranty portion, of the standard 5-year or 150 000km warranty, is automatically extended to a whopping 10-year or 1 000 000km if you keep ownership. Of the vehicle.

For maintenance, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro is available with a 5-year or 60 000km service plan.
